About Us

Scroll Master is an interactive resource for learning new languages — vocab groups, flashcards, and a speed reader, all in one place.

We build on findings from eye-movement reading research — how the eye actually moves across a line, and how pacing and color affect fatigue and comprehension — to shape the experience: from the color combinations chosen to be easy on your eyes, to the careful tuning of reading speed. It’s not a Chinese-only tool; the same research-backed approach applies across every language on the site.

Currently covering Chinese, Spanish, English, and Japanese, with more languages on the way.

Learning Tools

We’re building a set of interactive tools to learn new languages, shaped by research on how people actually read:

  • Vocab Groups — browse vocabulary by category, with sub-group accordions and translation toggles; currently covering Chinese, Spanish, English, and Japanese, with more languages on the way
  • Flashcards — click-to-flip cards with native text-to-speech and example sentences
  • Speed Reader — a word-by-word RSVP reader with pacing and color palettes informed by eye-movement reading studies, plus tone-coloring for Chinese

More languages and features are on the way as the project grows.

Speed Reader

A word-by-word speed reader, built on eye-movement reading research rather than just a flashing-text gimmick — Optimal Recognition Point letter positioning, syllable-weighted pacing so a pause actually feels like a pause, and stage color combinations chosen to be easy on your eyes over a long session. Paste any text — or load a vocabulary list — and it flashes one chunk at a time, syncing native text-to-speech across Chinese, Spanish, English, and Japanese, with tone-coloring for Chinese: gold for 1st tone, red for 2nd, purple for 3rd, blue for 4th.

Ready to try it? Head straight to the Speed Reader page, or hit the “Speed Reader” button on the cover page.
